POSITION: GRADUATE ACCOUNTANT
REPORTING TO
Manager
POSITION PURPOSE
To work as part of a technical team to provide services to the firm’s clients in a variety of industries. The accountant is responsible for assisting the Senior Accountant in completing allocated sections of insolvency assignments under Senior Accountant or Manager guidance.
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
General
- Complete work as instructed by the Senior Accountant or Manager
- Obtain a general understanding of the insolvency procedures for the sections allocated for each administration
- Ensure a comprehensive daily record of time spent is maintained
Planning and Programming Work
- Assist the Senior Accountant as requested in setting up files with the correct documentation
- Be aware of deadlines for your section and for the total job
Clients
- Develop a basic understanding of the client’s business and the commercial environment in which they operate
- Be sensitive and responsive to concerns raised by clients and ensure that these issues are referred to your Senior Accountant/Manager and dealt with promptly, professionally and effectively
- In conjunction with your Senior Accountant/Manager ensure that any commitments made to clients are followed up and met in line with the expectation of the client.
- Ensure that all correspondence is drafted in a professional manner and reviewed when necessary

Qualifications
Business/Commerce degree with a major in accounting (or part thereof)
Behavioural Skills
- The ability to establish positive client relationships
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team including under pressure
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with client’s business and the commercial environment in which they operate
Technical Skills
- Good follow through skills
- Good organisational skills
- Demonstrated theoretical understanding of the Australian reporting requirements, especially Accounting Standards, the Corporations Act 2001, UIG’s and other applicable requirements. Seek to apply these standards in practical situations, consistent with University studies
- If working in Corporate an understanding of the Corporations Act 2001 and other relevant legislation as it affects insolvent entities (eg. Voluntary Administrations, Lquidation Receivership)
- Develop an understanding of financial and other reporting requirements and disclosures through assistance in preparation of financial reports and written reports
- Ability to write letters and reports in a clear and plain English manner
- Obtain a basic knowledge of income tax for corporations and of income tax for individuals and other entities.
- If working in Personal Insolvency a general understanding of the Bankruptcy Act 1966 and other relevant legislation.
